This family was all together for the week of Christmas and I was lucky enough to take their portraits the night before I left to go out of town! And what a gorgeous day it was – sunny and blue skies in Laguna Beach – quite the contrast to the cold and snow that greeted me in Utah!  I loved meeting this beautiful family and their loveable pit bull puppy! Enjoy your sneak peak Honey and family!

This gorgeous young family was referred to me by this family who came out to visit from Nevada 2 years ago!  I love to get fun, new referrals from past clients! And of course, Laguna Beach is a lovely place to come and visit in August when one lives in Las Vegas!  What better time and place to have some family portraits taken. And what made it more fun is that it was baby “J’s” first visit ever to the beach, and as always it is so neat to watch children experience the “firsts” in life and to live vicariously through them. She at first wanted nothing to do with the sand, trying to hold her feet up and not touch it.  But she seemed to think chasing the waves with daddy was fun, and by the end of the evening we even got her to sit in the sand with mom and dad close by! The love and joy this family shares is self-evident in the images captured, I think….enjoy your sneak peek “C” family!

Oh, the summer night
Has a smile of light
And she sits on a sapphire throne.

When I got a phone call from Julie, I was so excited for the chance to photographer her family again! I love when I have returning clients come all the way from out of state. She chose the same location as our last session, 3 years ago – Wood’s Cove in Laguna Beach, because it is rarely crowded for a beautiful summer evening and has so many fun and unique spots to photograph in. Unfortunately, on this gorgeous summer evening we ran into one little problem…high tide. Which meant there was very little of the beach to work with. At some point, no beach to work with!  But the “P” family was so willing to go with the flow, which often meant such antics as planting myself in the surf, deciding on our pose and having them run in and set themselves up for a couple of clicks of the shutter while it ebbed…and then run back out as it flowed back in.  Everyone was such a good sport. And the high waves did at least make a spectacular backdrop for some portraits. Couldn’t ask for prettier water or prettier skies!  Enjoy your sneak peek guys!

I often spend my summer photographing families travelling from out of town to the beach. This summer I had several from Utah, Arizona, Nevada, Ohio, Michigan, and even Alaska, among other places.  But this family has to win the award for traveling from the furthest away!  They came all the way from Singapore!  We scheduled 3 sessions for their month-long stay!  The first one, represented here in this “sneak peek” was at the beautiful Wood’s Cove with Brian’s side of the family!  I had my first chance to get acquainted with the lovely Isabella!  She charmed her way into my heart throughout their three sessions and I was so sad to see them go last month!  I know it’s been a long time in coming Eve – so here’s your sneak peek number one!  Enjoy!

Yep.  Couldn’t think of a more original title for this post – it must be getting late!  I’ll just let the images of this session speak for themselves – truly a fun and beautiful family!

Had a great time with this lovely teenager for her Senior Portraits.  We combined the Senior Portraits with a family session, but I always feel that a Senior should get their own spotlight -and their own little chance to shine. So she’ll get her very own blog post and I’ll put the family pictures up in their own sneak peak!  Because I’ve got so much to blog (and it’s pretty late by now) the posts will be short on words and long on pictures! Here goes  - enjoy your sneak peak!

Beautiful Lindsay and her equally lovely family hail from the state of Ohio -and she will be Ohio State Bound this fall…  We had a fabulous time playing in the sand and sunshine at Wood’s Cove and capturing her bright and sparkling personality , which shone through in everything she did.  Enjoy your “Sneak Peak” Lindsay!

I was contacted about a month ago by this family who wanted to capture some special portraits of their family and their beloved pets when one of their dogs was diagnosed with cancer.  They didn’t know how much time they had left, and wanted to remember the beautiful spirit of  and relationships they have with this special member of their family.  I was honored and also excited because I love incorporating animals into family portraits.  When I met Snowy that Thursday, I could tell what a special dog he was!  So sweet and willing. Even though he had to be basically carried all over the beach!   And both of these dogs were so well taken care of! We had a great time, except for (or maybe because of) the fact that I kept thinking one of the family members was named Sylvia!  Sometimes I called the mom Sylvia (her name is Alicia) sometimes I called the daughter Sylvia (her name is Cindy), and sometimes I even called the border collie Sylvia.  It got to be a big joke (“all right, everyone smile now – hey I don’t see Sylvia smiling”), that I found out was even funnier to them because they all new a Sylvia that no one really cared for!  I spent the most time on Snowy, knowing it would likely be his last portrait session….

The next day, as I was on a camping trip with my family, I received this email from their family:

Vanessa,
Snowy passed away peacefully in our home last night. Thank you so much for taking the time to photograph my family. It really meant so much to us.
Cindy
It really reminded me how fleeting this life really is.  And why when we are tempted to put off capturing memories of those special people and pets in our lives because we want to lose 10 more pounds, or it is a hassle to get everyone together and find the perfect outfits, we should really just act now, before it is too late.
I firmly believe there is a special place in heaven for animals, and especially those beloved pets who share our lives with us! And I know that Snowy is there now, still watching over “his people.”
In loving memory of Snowy… thanks for being so patient for this Sneak Peak!
